How to convert an SVG to a bitmap and send as POST data in the browser? [duplicate]

I have an SVG image in <svg> tags on my page (specifically a jvectormap). In the browser, I want to convert this to a bitmapped image, and send this as POST data (to the Facebook API) via AJAX. How should I do this?
